Opening of the Bethe Center

On November 7th, 2008 the inauguration of the Bethe Center for Theoretical Physics was celebrated with a special Colloquium. The Bethe Center unifies 10 research groups from the Physikalischen Institut, the Helmholtz Institut für Strahlen- und Kernphysik, the Mathematischen Institut and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics. The Bethe Center fosters and unifies research activities over a wide range of theoretical and mathematical physics. Activities of the Bethe Center include a visitors program, seminars and workshops, the Bethe Colloquium, and graduate lecture series.

The inauguration colloquium was attended by more then 300 visitors from Bonn University and other national and international institutions. The opening speeches were held by Prof. Hans Peter Nilles and the Dekan of the Math.-Nat. Fakultät, Prof. Ulf-G. Meißner. The academic program included the opening talks of Prof. Gerald E. Brown (Stony Brook), Prof. Gerardus 't Hooft (Utrecht) and Prof. Gang Tian (Princeton). (podcasts at
